You should choose the electric guitar because it's fun, cool, and lets you play many styles of music like rock, pop, blues, or metal! It’s loud, but you can control the volume, so it works at home or on stage. You can add effects to change the sound (tone, gain), which makes it more fun to play. It feels great to play along with songs or make your own. You don’t need to know a lot to start, and it feels good to learn new songs as you go. Plus, playing electric guitar can help you relax, express yourself, and even make new friends.
To begin, make sure your guitar is tuned! You can do this with 'Clip-on tuners' or apps! For me, I get on youtube and find a video with all the tuned notes, and tune my guitar to sound the same. (You shouldn't really do this..) Next, i'd learn open chords, strumming patterns, and how to read guitar tabs to begin playing simple songs and develop rhythm! My favorite online teacher to learn from is 'Marin Music Center' on youtube! He has a huge variety of songs to pick from, and even just tips on how to play guitar better.
A lot of guitarists make common mistakes like not pressing the strings properly, playing too fast without a steady rhythm, or gripping the pick too tightly. To improve, focus on pressing the strings close to the frets , something you could do is use a metronome to stay on time , and make sure you hold the pick loosely but firmly. Practice finger strength with simple exercises, and always pay attention to your tone settings on your amp . Don't forget to take breaks, that's super important! Also, sit or stand with good posture to keep your movements smooth. Spend time on technique exercises like scales and bends, and try learning songs by ear to improve your musical listening. Lastly, set small, realistic goals and celebrate your progress as you go! Even if it's just learning a new chord.
